Tour from Athens to Ancient Olympia

Ancient Olympia was a sanctuary site in ancient Greece that was home to the ancient Olympic Games. It was located in the western Peloponnese region, in a valley on the banks of the Alpheus River.

The site was dedicated to Zeus, the chief god of the Greek pantheon. The centerpiece was the Temple of Zeus, which housed a massive statue of Zeus seated on a throne. This statue was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Olympic Games were held at Olympia every four years starting in 776 BC. The games were a major religious and athletic festival in honor of Zeus. Events included foot races, wrestling, boxing, equestrian events, and other sports. The winners were awarded an olive wreath crown.

Olympia also housed several other temples, altars, and buildings related to the games and worship of the gods. The site was destroyed by earthquakes, fires, and invading armies over the centuries, but extensive archaeological remains have been excavated, allowing us to study this important site of the ancient Greek world.

Following this, your driver will drop you off at a traditional Greek tavern so that you can enjoy a delicious lunch.

Your Ancient Olympia tour will end with a relaxing afternoon drive back to Athens, where your friendly Greecetraveltaxi driver will drop you back off at your hotel or apartment.
